Activity report from Workshop 2 in Lithuania:


 
This very interesting building was one of the first log-houses we saw in Lithuania in our first field trip. A granary at the open air museum in Rumsiskes close to the city of Kaunas.

  The joints on this granary are very familiar to Swedish joints in 17-18th century and it is also called "The Swedish joint" in Lithuania. The roof construction of logs is only known in a few medieval houses in Sweden.

    Acquaintance with the exposition of     Samogitian region. (represented by     Teodora Morkuniene and Rasa Bertasiute)
  14 30 Departure to Radviliskis (the working place of the seminar is in this district), visiting the objects of wooden architecture on the way:
  15 15     Vilkija: little town- urbanistic monument     (the plan is preserved), built up with the     vernacular wooden architecture.
  15 45     The manor in Veliuona: the wooden     building built in the beginning of XIX ctn.,     the period of classicism.
  16 30     The Siline tavern: the wooden building     (renovated in 1999-2000) is used as the     administrative building of the Panemunis     National Park.
    The 12 minutes film has been shown about     the renovation of the building. The building,     the exposition inside it and the film has been     represented by V.Ganusauskas, the     director of the Panemunis National Park.
  17 30     Šiluva (through the window of the bus): the     little town built up with wooden buildings in     the traditional vernacular manner.
  19 00 Dinner in Šeduva (Radviliskis region) together with the representatives from the Region and Daugyvene Museum.

  The second workshop was held in the area of the Daugyvene open air museum. The museum is situated close to a creek in a wonderful little valley surrounded by enormous, flat agricultural areas in the Radviliskis region.

24 September Monday The first working day of the workshop

   -  Presentation of the documentary film by       V.Damasevicius "Disappearance of       Zverynas".
   Zverynas is one of the residential district in Vilnius, built up with small wooden buildings in the end of XIX ctn. and the beginning of the XX ctn. Today it is considered to be a place of prestige to live, that's why the old heritage is being destroyed by new buildings.

25 September Tuesday Second working day of the workshop
