workshop site

The workshop site
The workshop in Romania will take place in the district of Salaj in Transylvania. The two wooden churches that are going to be restored at the workshop are situated in the two villages Baica and Racâs between Baiha Mare and Cluj. The closest town will be Zalau some 20 km west of the two villages.

The church in Racâs is the Holy Archangels, built in 1783, painted inside in 1805. Built by oak and fir wood. The church in Baica built in 1645, with serious damages in the painting decoration at the interior of the church.

The two chosen churches (sites) are placed in the middle of a large area concerning the restoration activity developed over the last ten years.

All the organisation needs for the participants to this workshop are
provided with the help of the local authorities.

Baica church will be the centre of multifunctional activities. The site is
placed at the two main roads. Around the site will be erected a protection
enceinte where the workings of different things will be displayed and explained.

Racas site is surrounded by a cemetery and many trees, so that the place will
be used only for the implementation of the restoration project.
